Welcome back to FN Prints, where every one of our photographs tells a story, and art is a journey into heartfelt exploration.
In this new series, "Behind the Lens - Stories from Our Photography Adventures," we invite you to step into the world behind our prints and discover the personal tales and experiences that shape each piece.
Jamal's Favourite Print: "Staircase of Gold"
In 2014, Jamal embarked on a profound solo journey to Cambodia, leaving behind the familiar to immerse himself in the world of photography.
This trip, guided by a well-connected British photographer residing in Cambodia, promised unique perspectives and experiences beyond the reach of the average traveler.
Among the highlights of this adventure was a day at the awe-inspiring Angkor Wat temple complex—a place steeped in history and spiritual significance.
Arriving at the temple before dawn, Jamal captured its magnificent silhouette against the rising sun.
Yet, it was in the quiet aftermath of sunrise, guided by a personal friend of the guide, a Buddhist monk, that Jamal discovered a moment of unexpected beauty.
As the monk led him through the temple's restricted corners, sharing stories of his life within these sacred walls, he paused effortlessly in the light that transformed the stone staircase into a cascading sea of shimmering gold.
"Staircase of Gold" epitomises the harmony between human spirituality and architectural wonder — a monk enveloped in his vivid saffron robe, framed against the temple stones that bask in golden splendour.
This image is a meditation on the serenity found in moments of stillness and reflection, and a reminder of the unique access and timeless stories that photography can unveil.

Liz's Favourite: "Escalator Ride"
Fast forward to 2017, on a brisk morning in Amsterdam as Jamal and Liz strive to navigate their way from the bustle of Centraal Station to their quaint apartment.
A momentary chaos ensues; Liz is suddenly left amidst the luggage, searching for Jamal who’s darted across the plaza, camera poised.
It’s here, on an unassuming morning, that "Escalator Ride" comes to life. Jamal captures a monochrome moment; an elderly lady descends alone on an escalator, her form elegantly silhouetted against the urban geometry — a tribute to Liz's love for abstract and linear compositions.
There's a purity to the scene, a timelessness juxtaposed against the hustle of city life.
"Escalator Ride" is more than a study in light, shadows and contrast; it's an exploration of solitude and motion, of elegance captured within transit.
The intricacy of its monochromatic palette invites the viewer into a reflective space, perfect for adding a touch of sophistication and narrative depth to any decor.
